One year, the Evening before Easter, there was no oil for the lamps Narcissus had some water brought, and after he prayed over it, they poured it into the lamps. The water was immediately converted into oil. Some of the oil had been kept preserved as a memorial until the time when Eusebius wrote his histories. As he reached extreme old age, he made St. Alexander his coadjutor.St. Alexander wrote that Narcissus was about one hundred and sixteen years old when he began assisting him in the office. I have dawdled away another evening when I COULD BE...writing many very profound things. I was reading a couple articles about the recent Extraordinary Synod on the Family, Pope Francis addressed the assembled Fathers, thanking them for their efforts and encouraging them to continue to journey. I found a couple new sites to read including Fr. John Zuhlsdorf and To Go Forth. Both had good articles and insights. Heavily focused on a the idea that human beings act based on the cultural premise they believe. TAKERS and LEAVERS are the two divergent points of view that culture has created. I took a pic from Ishmael dot ORG  which shows the original listing the author worked through to decide on the name for his main character and venerable teacher. The ANSWER to why here..... I have been praying more, busy today for awhile with a bit of detail work. The day had faded away quickly. Cornerstone Catholic Conferen ce is this weekend. At the last minute I chose to go and found someone to share a room with!  I am looking forward to the Friday night speaker who was a survivor of the genocide in Rawanda. Imaculee Ilibagiza  is sharing her story. I have spent the last while reading about Saints, and Intentional Communities in the Pacific Northwest. I find myself drawn the the idealism and built in support system that a well developed community would offer. Evergreen Land Trust is one. What do you think? Life ends up not as we expect many days, and I must take a moment to calm, pray, breathe and be thankful. Re-read a book by Anne McCaffrey (and her son Todd) called Dragon's Fire. I rarely buy books anymore, but impulses do happen. Her work is Young Adult / Fantasy for those who do not know. I enjoyed most of the 'Pern' books about dragons and the civilization that developed there. This book is from 2006, # 19 in the series so there is much to choose from. Goodreads dot Com is a great place to find book reviews and new books to read that others recommend. This was a story less about the dragon riders and weirdness of Pern (Red Star & Thread), than it is a good study of compassion and how difficult it is to change societal ways to deal with the poor. I have a couple tired, difficult days and neglected several things, including this Blog...SO....today am posting a list of the saints I 'missed' and taking 5 minutes to find out about St. Irene. (ok probably more like 45 minutes). I chose Irene partly because of my Aunt Irene. I lived with her for awhile after I left my parents house.  She and I had pleasant, quiet talks over dinner and discussed many things. I subscribe to AMERICA magazine, and thought I would share an article about Saint Francis from the September 22nd Issue. Sunday is a busy day usually and today there is a Senior's Meeting as well as Brunch with friends. I read my AARP magazine this PM, and found many hopeful and inspiring stories of people doing good things in their 2nd half of life.  I think I may be inspired to volunteer more, do more, and yet, there is a reality that I am limited in my abilitites, time, and treasure. I will do more though, but perhaps not as much as I envision I would like. Even in dying one can become helpful to others. If the story of Fr. Rick is any indication. Farmer's Market Day. Lovely peaches, plums, raspberries, sugar snap peas, and of course pears. Only a couple more weeks then done, will have to think up another walk and dinner routine for that day. There is a movie on tonight from 1943 I think, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I may return to this, or perhaps mearly disappoint myself again. The black and white film of a widow woman who has the ghost of a seacaptain haunting her house. He dictates a book to her so that she can publish and make royalties enough to keep the house. A fairly good story overall, Jean Tierney I do like. I would recommend it for an interesting look at the classic style of hollywood love story. Very G rated and proper, just like I like them. 7th This challenge has really made it clear to me that I need quite a bit more focus and education to be able to become sucessful financially or popularity wise even as a writer. This last sentence is a great example of this. My life as well as many people I know are focused on work, then distractions.
